Bar pingpond denver to close for the season
Berkeley pingpongs are scheduled to close this fall after the city passed a ban on the sport.
The Berkeley Pingpong Club is expected to close Friday.
The pingpinted bar will remain open during the shutdown.
The Berkeley City Council passed a new ordinance in April that requires bars and other establishments to have lockout doors.
The ordinance goes into effect July 1.
The ban was part of a package of measures passed in May by the council that included an ordinance banning street gambling and bars and restaurants from serving alcohol to minors.
The measure also bans smoking, loud music and other music at bars and places of entertainment.
It also requires all businesses to have a lockout door and requires that all patrons have a ticket to enter.
The ban has prompted criticism that it’s an effort to suppress gambling and has not been widely adopted in cities around the country.
